Archaeological finds reveal the way that prehistoric people constructed their houses and outbuildings on the lake and the way they organized their economic and social life. To this day, archaeological excavations have brought to light many important finds at the lake dwelling of Dispilio, such as jewellery of exquisite workmanship, statuettes, decorated ceramics, a Neolithic boat and signs of early writing, the deciphering of which may be of great historical significance.
